Shipping registers and other records for the port of Plymouth are held separately at Plymouth and West Devon Record Office, and are not included in this project.Gary Hicks has transcribed registers for the port of Plymouth dating from 1824 –1946, as well as the Certificates of Registration for the years 1814 to 1823, held in the National Archives at Kew, for which register books do not survive. He has also brought together the surviving material for Plymouth- registered fishing boats. As part of on-going research he is adding material to the transcribed registers relating to the history of the vessels and crews.Details of his project can be found on his web-site Plymouth's Other Fleet where you can browse examples of transcripts, and some of the supporting material on these merchant ships and fishing vessels. The Devon Record Office worked in co-operation with the Devon Family History Society, the Friends of Devon's Archives and other volunteers to develop the Devon Shipping Records collection further.
